Virtual College Visits
We are excited to continue to collaborate with Breakthrough Houston to bring virtual college visits to students across Houston! During these times, we know how important it is to remain connected while staying safe and healthy. We look forward to working with each of you this year.
Our fall virtual visit spots are currently full. We’ve gone back and forth about adding more visits but we decided to keep them limited to not overwhelm our students with additional Zoom time. Given the limited number of spots we had, we first invited schools that meet full-demonstrated need and where we needed to increase our access and exposure. We appreciate your grace.
We are encouraging students to participate in visits you are already hosting as well, even if not a part of virtual college visits.
We hope to continue these sessions in the Spring. Return here in early December or keep an eye on your inbox for more info.
Feedback: We're learning a lot in this virtual life. Some feedback our students have offered about virtual college visits thus far are that they often feel rushed and there is not enough time for Q&A. I know some strategies that have been employed are shorter presentation portion and/or asking students to “stay on” if they have additional questions. The second area is engagement. The highest rated sessions were those that included some sort of student engagement tool/input. Examples: Using Zoom polls, Padlet, Kahoot, Nearpod, Peardeck, etc. Zoom-fatigue is real! If you have an opportunity to have a current student present, that's a PLUS.
