EMERGE RESULTS
PROGRAM MODEL
EMERGE initially launched in 2010 and operated solely in Houston’s largest school district – Houston Independent School District (HISD). In 2013, EMERGE Founder, Rick Cruz, made the strategic decision to establish a non-profit in order to expand the EMERGE program to serve more students across multiple school districts within the Greater Houston area. As a result, EMERGE is uniquely structured as one entity, however, operates under two separate program models – EMERGE HISD and the EMERGE Non-Profit.
EMERGE NON-PROFIT
The EMERGE Non-Profit team is comprised of 40 employees including 10 program managers who directly support and deliver our state-of-the-art college advising curriculum to nearly 600 high school students across four Houston-area school districts (Aldine ISD, Klein ISD, Spring Branch ISD, and Spring ISD).

EMERGE HISD
In HISD, the EMERGE program managers are employed by and housed within the district. HISD currently has 22 employees including 17 program managers who provide college advising to over 1,050 students across 43 high schools. EMERGE HISD program managers also receive ongoing training and support from the EMERGE Non-Profit team and convene regularly for additional professional development and to maintain unity across the program models.
Houston ISD is the only district partner where the program managers are housed within and paid by the school district.
PROGRAM RESULTS
Before partnering with a district, the EMERGE team does a careful analysis of the district’s needs to ensure that we can make a significant impact. In the districts that we partner with, we found that on average of less than 15% of high-performing low-income students enroll at a selective college or university with less than 40% enrolling at a four-year college and over 50% enrolling at a two-year college or not at all. Through our state-of-the-art college advising curriculum and support services provided to our district partners, we are pleased to report the following results:

97%
of EMERGE Students
in the high school class of 2022 applied to at least one selective college or university
90%
of EMERGE Students
in the high school class of 2022 were accepted to at least one selective college or university

94%
of EMERGE Students matriculated to a four-year college or university in the fall of 2021.
74%
of EMERGE Students
matriculated to a selective
four-year college or university in the fall of 2021.

Matriculation data for the high school class of 2022 will be available in Spring 2023
