EMERGE Senior Accepted to 20 Selective Colleges and Universities

Micheal Brown, a senior in the EMERGE program in Houston ISD, was accepted to all 20 selective colleges and universities he applied to this fall. His college list was comprised of the following colleges and universities: Harvard, Stanford, University of Pennsylvania, Northwestern, Georgetown, Princeton, Vanderbilt, Yale, Johns Hopkins, UC Berkley, Pomona, Claremont McKenna, Williams, University of Texas at Austin, University of Southern California, Amherst, University of North Carolina - Chappell Hill, Tulane, University of Michigan, UC Davis and UC Irvine. 8% (National Average) vs. 100% (EMERGE Students) Across the country, only 8% of students from underserved communities with competitive grades and top SAT scores apply to a single selective college or university their senior year of high school. At EMERGE, we are determined to change these statistics. Through exposure to the nation’s top colleges and universities through summer college tours, targeted one-on-one college advising, and a strong community of support, students like Micheal have the opportunity to reach their full potential. “EMERGE means everything to me.
